프로그래시브락의 명반 Mike Oldfiedl의 Crises 이다. 친숙한 "Moonlight Shadow"가 들어있는 앨범으로 처음 앨범이 나왔을 때 표지의 그림에 묘하게 압도되었던 기억이 난다. 이것이 프로그래시브음악인가!!!

발매당시 1600만장이라는 경이적인 앨범판매를 기록하며 영국차트 정상과 그래미상의 영예를 안긴 프로그래시브 역사상 최고의 앨범으로 뽑히는 마이크 올드필드의 데뷔작 'Tubular Bells'(1973)이 발매된지 30년을 기념하기 위해 다시 새롭게 녹음된 리마스터 앨범이 발매되었다.

팝, 락, 클래식, 라틴음악, 재즈 등의 모든 음악적 요소를 아우르며 기타, 베이스, 키보드 등 20여 가지의 악기를 혼자 연주하여 9개월간의 작업으로 만들어낸 전체길이 50분에 달하는 이 전무후무한 명연주곡은 전영혁의 음악세계에서나 들을 수 있었던 대작으로 혹시나 KBS 클래식 "명연주 명음반"을 진행하는 정만섭씨가 미친척하고 틀지 않는 이상 라디오에서는 더 이상 들을 수 없는 곡이 되어버렸다.

오늘 소개할 앨범은 <Old and Wise>, <Ammonia Avenue>, <Eye in the Sky>, <Prime Time> 등 무수한 명곡을 남긴 프로그래시브락 밴드 Alan Parsons Project의 최고의 명반으로 꼽히는 5집앨범 'The Turn of a Friendly Card'이다.

'기다리던 카드가 자신의 손에 들어왔을 때'를 이르는 앨범 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 본 앨범을 도박을 주제로 한 일종의 컨셉 앨범이다. Sting의 'Shape of My Heart'의 가사처럼 각 각의 곡은 도박을 통해 비춰본 인간의 삶의 단면과 구도자적 모습을 그려내고 있다. 특히 Eric Woolfson의 감미로운 목소리가 돋보이는 <Time>은 지금까지 사랑받는 그들의 대표곡이 되었다.

비록 차기작 'Eye in the Sky'(1982) 앨범이 상업적으로 가장 큰 성공을 거두지만 Alan Parsons Project의 팬들이라면 주저없이 이 앨범을 최고의 명받으로 꼽을 것이다. / hanihani101♧

오늘 소개하는 앨범은 1988년 발매된 영원한 락의 우상 Jimmy Page의 첫 솔로앨범 'Outrider'입니다. 1980년 드러머 존본햄(John Bonham)의 사망으로 Led Zeppelin의 화려한 비상을 접어야했던 지미페이지는 폴로저스와 프로젝트그룹 'The Firm'을 결성하여 활동하다 1988년 그의 첫 솔로앨범을 발표하게 됩니다. 발매당시 로버트 플랜트가 게스트로 참여하여 'The Only One'을 불렀는데 저를 포함해서 전 세계 많은 팬들은 다시 Led Zeppelin이 재결합 될것이라는 기대감으로 흥분했던 기억이 납니다. 앨범 전체적인 분위기가 Led Zeppelin 전성기때의 느낌을 주는 수작들로 가득차 있는데 특히 드러머로 기용된 Jason은 바로 존본햄의 아들로 앨범 발매후 Outrider 순회공연을 지미페이지와 함께 이끌게 됩니다. Jimmy Page는 훗날 인터뷰에서 이때를 회상하며 "Jason Bonham과의 'Outrider'공연은 마치 야드버드(Yardbirds)시절로 돌아간 것 같았다"라고 말합니다. 안타까운 것은 원래 본 앨범은 두장으로 발매될 계획이었는데 당시 녹음실로 이용하던 지미페이지의 집에 도둑이 들어 그때까지 녹음된 데모테입까지 도난당해 어쩔 수 없이 한장의 앨범만 발매되었다는 것입니다. 2008년 베이징 올림픽 폐막식에서 깜짝 등장해서 백발을 휘날리며 "Whole Lotta love"를 연주하던 지미페이지의 모습에 어찌나 반가왔는지.. 한동안 지인들과의 술자리에서 그 때의 환희를 이야기하며 밤을 세웠었네요. 그럼 ^^ / hanihani101♧

모처럼 영화 한편을 봤다. 007 50주년 기념작 'Skyfall'. 추격신과 아델의 멋진 주제곡이 어울어진 첫 장면은 역대 007시리즈 중 최고의 앞권이었다. 전작인 로얄카지노와 퀀텀 오브 솔러스(Quantum of Solace)에서 새로운 007의 이미지를 관객들에게 심어준 Daniel Craig와 M16의 수장 M(Judi Dench), 그리고 '하몽하몽'의 바람둥이에서 '노인을 위한 나라는 없다'와 본작을 통해 냉혈 악당의 이미지를 구축한 스페인 국민배우 Javier Bardem가 펼치는 거칠고 냉정한 연기는 화려한 영상미와 어울어져 영화내내 관중을 몰입하게 만들기에 충분했다. 거기에 007 시리즈 최고의 OST로 평가받는 아델의 주제곡은 단연 최고였다. 아 정말 멋진 노래다. 만일 아델이 케이팝스타에 나와서 이곡을 불러준다면 심사위원들은 어떤 표정을 지을까? 박진영의 황홀한 표정이 눈에 그려지는 것은 왜일까? / hanihani101♧

현재 전세계에서 가장 사랑받는 락밴드 Coldplay가 ‘COLDPLAY LIVE 2003’ 이후 9년 만에 라이브앨범을 발매했다. 이번 라이브 앨범은 2011년 6월부터 진행 중인 ‘Mylo Xyloto World Tour’ 실황을 담고 있는데 아델(Adele)의 로열 앨버트 홀 실황 앨범 (Live At The Royal Albert Hall)을 감독한 폴 더그데일(Paul Dugdale)의 디렉팅으로 완성된 이번 앨범엔 파리 스타드 드 프랑스 스타디움 (Paris’s Stade de France) 공연과 캐나다 몬트리올 벨 센터(Montreal’s Bell Centre) 콘서트, 글래스톤베리 (Glastonbury) 2011 피라미드 스테이지 헤드라이너 공연 현장이 수록됐다.

멤버 크리스 마틴은 “관객들은 우리의 음악을 우리가 만든 것보다 더욱 아름답게 들리도록 도와준다”며 “이런 놀라운 순간과 경험을 영원히 간직하기 위해 이번 라이브 콘서트 실황 앨범을 만들게 되었다”고 말했다.

CD와 DVD, CD와 블루레이 2가지 버전으로 발매되는 이번 콘서트 실황은 5집 ‘Mylo Xyloto’의 수록곡을 포함해 ‘Yellow’, ‘In My Place’, ‘The Scientist’, ‘Fix You’, ‘Viva La Vida’ 등 히트곡들을 싣고 있다. 다행히도(?) 음원서비스는 하지 않는다고 한다. 아싸^^ / hanihani101♧

올 겨울은 무척 춥네요. 눈도 많이 오고....창박으로 보이는 풍경들은 이것이 정말 겨울이구나 하는 생각을 갖게 만듭니다. 연말을 맞이하여 들었던 들뜬 분위기는 다소 차분해지고 한 해를 되돌아 보며 옛 추억에 잠기게 되네요. 중 고등학교시절 들었던 추억의 명곡들 중 이 추운 겨울에 너무나 어울리는 Three Dog Night 의 "An Old-Fashioned Love Song" 을 2013년 새해 첫 곡으로 포스팅합니다. 혹한의 겨울밤 추위를 이기기 위해 개 세마리와 껴안고 잔다는 뜻의 Three Dog Night의 노래들과 함께 다시 추억속으로 Go Go!! / hanihani101♧

LA 출신 록밴드로 배우이기도 한 Jared Leto가 보컬을 맡고 있다. 2000년대 스타크래프트 대회가 전국을 휩쓸던 무렵 30 Seconds to Mars의 여러곡이 대회 BGM으로 쓰이면서 국내에서 인기를 끌었고 그 중에서도 이번 앨범에 들어있는 <Attatck>은 최고의 인기를 누렸다. 하지만 Jared Leto가 라이브 무대에서 안정적인 보컬을 보여주지 못하면서 팬들은 큰 실망감을 가지게 되었고 그렇게 잊혀져간 밴드가 되었다.

밴드의 이름은 과학기술의 발달로 화성으로 가는데 30초 밖에 안걸린다는 하버드대학 교수의 논문에서 영감을 받아 짓게 되었으며 30초 안에 팬들의 마음을 사로잡을 음악을 만드는 것을 목표로 했다고 한다. / hanihani101

최초의 초현실주의자로 평가받는 히에로니무스 보슈(Hieronymus Bosch(1450?~1516)의 대표작인 "세속적 쾌락의 정원(The Garden of Earthly Delights)을 앨범표지로 선택한 Deep Purple의 3집앨범인 "Deep Purple"(1969)은 Rod Evans가 보컬을 보컬을 맡고 있던  Deep Purple 1기에 녹음된 앨범으로 Deep Purple 최고의 수작으로 평가되고 있다. Formula 3과 Latte E Milele 등 당시 이탈리아와 영국 Rock의 프로그래시브와 싸이키댈릭, 클래식을 접목한 예술적인 작품들이 중흥기를 이루는 가운데 그 정점에 서있는 작품으로 T.S. Eliot의 황무지 "The Waste Land"에서 영감을 받아 Ritchie Blackmore와 Jon Lord가 공동으로 작업한 불멸의 명곡 "April"과 "Lalena"의 대작들이 들어있다. 참고로 앨범표지에 보슈의 작품이 흑백으로 인쇄된 것은 의도된 것이 아니라 인쇄상의 실수였다고 한다. / hanihani101♧

메탈리카와 샌프란시스코 심포니와의 라이브 실황을 담은 이 앨범은 말 그대로 충격에 충격이었다. Master of Puppets 자체가 클라이막스로 가면서 사람을 점점 더 미치게 만들면서 절정의 오르가즘을 느끼게 하는데 여기에 오케스트라까지 합세하여 말 그대로 헷필드의 목소리와 커크 해밋의 기타는 미친 말이 용으로 변하여 하늘 끝까지 뚫고 나갈듯이 울부짓는다. 반드시 차 안에서 엄청난 볼륨으로 들어야 그 맛을 느낄 수 있다. 다만 운전중 나도 모르게 최고 시속을 밟을 수 있으니 그것은 주의하자 ^^

중학교 시절 친구 용만이는 Judas Priest가 최고라고 했고 난 Deep Purple이 최고라고 했다. 그 중에서도 락발라드 Soldier of Fortune은 그 슬픈 가락때문에 마음이 더 끌렸고, 지금도 술한잔하고 노래방이라도 가게되면 부르는 18번이 되었다. 제목이 무슨 뜻인지도 모르고 들었는데 나이가 들면서 내 삶을 되돌아 보니 나의 노래이기도 했다. 그렇게 먹고 살기위해 돈을 좇아 용병의 삶을 살아가야했고 지금도 그 채바뀌같은 굴레를 벗어나지 못하는 우리 인간의 삶에 대한 고찰이 이 노래이다. / hanihani101
